Baker is a city in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana and a part of the Baton “Rouge Metro area. Population is 13,793 as of 2000 census. Baker is the home to the 926th MAC which is part of the 769th Engineer Battalion headquarters in Baton Rouge, La. The median income for a housel hold in the city was $35,151 and the median income for a family was $38,621. The per capita income for the city was $14,920. About 13.4% of families and 15.5% of the population were below the poverty line.
In March of 2012 Police Chief Mike Knaps said, “Members of the Special Response Team arrested Frank Smith, 41 after the search at an apartment on Buffet Street. Narcotics officers had been investigating Smith for some time. Along with marijuana a firearm and material to distribute the marijuana, officers found two women and a 4 year old girl in the apartment. One of the women had some outstanding warrants and was arrested. The child was returned home.
In April, 2012 Baker Police Department executed a search warrant and as a result the arrested two men. Once they got inside with the warrant they found a large quantity of marijuana along with paraphernalia used for individual sales. They also found a firearm. One of the men was a documented member of the “Zoo Boyz”. They were booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
